Voyageur Check-In 28″

The Voyageur Luggage Set comes in an array of colours that can suit all kinds of travellers depending on your own particular style.

We were sent two-toned black and yellow suitcases that I’m sure will make it very easy to pick out on a luggage carousel – always a bonus for a quick exit from the airport!

Exterior

Upon first glance, there are a few things that are almost instantly striking about the 28-inch suitcase.

First, it’s the location of the grab handles. While most suitcases will have a grab handle on the top and side of the suitcase, the Voyageur also has one on the front panel. This just makes it more convenient for manoeuvring in lots of different situations.

The grab handles themselves are durably made but lie almost completely flat against the surface of the suitcase, meaning that they won’t get in the way or add extra bulk to your luggage.

Perhaps the most notable thing about the Voyageur series, however, is its wide trolley handle. While most wheeled suitcases have a thin trolley handle that telescopes up, the Voyageur’s handle extends across the entire length of the case – about 40cm or 16in.

This can aid in the durability of the handle itself, but it’s also notable in the interior of the suitcase. One thing I don’t love about our Textured Carry-ons (or pretty much any other piece of luggage, for that matter) is that the handle interferes with the interior packing space.

This is virtually eliminated by this kind of handle design and you don’t have to pack around the handle on that side of the suitcase.

The suitcase is also equipped with a TSA-compliant lock and it comes with detailed instructions on how to set the code. The way the lock is set up is also convenient as it allows the zippers to lie flat and out of the way, rather than dangling loosely.

There are also very durable, 360° spinner wheels which means that the suitcase is incredibly easy to manoeuvre no matter where it is you are. The wheels are durable enough to withstand a long walk on uneven city streets and can also spin to navigate down narrow train aisles.

Interior

Because of the depth of the 28-inch suitcase – 32cm or about 12in – the interior of the Voyageur is incredibly spacious at a 99-litre capacity and you can really maximise what you bring.

Each side has a zipped panel to keep things organised and there are also compression straps on the interior to help secure down your belongings.

On one zipper panel, there are also two separate zipped compartments. There’s one with a mesh cover and another with a plastic cover – the latter would be perfect for stashing liquids that you may be worried about exploding in transit!

The way the suitcase is designed, the back side of the suitcase – the side of the trolley handle – is a fair bit deeper than the other side of the case. This is just something to keep in mind when packing.

The interior is lined with a soft, microfibre material that feels very durable and well-made, as well.

Voyageur Carry-On 20″

It is possible to purchase the Voyageur series as a set or individually. If you purchase as a set, you have the choice of the 28 or 26-inch checked suitcase along with the 20-inch carry-on.

This size is suitable for carry-on size for the majority of airlines – but always make sure to double-check the allowed dimensions before flying!

Exterior

The carry-on comes in the same array of colours as their larger, checked counterparts, but there are still a few differences to the exterior.

The most notable difference between the carry-on compared to the checked luggage is that there is no 3rd grab handle on the front. However, as it is a much smaller case that is going to be much easier to manoeuvre, this isn’t something that’s a huge deal.

Much like its check-in counterpart, the carry-on also boasts a wide trolley handle. This definitely frees up space in the interior making for more efficient packing.

However, on a carry-on, I like it less simply due to the fact that the handle is too wide to accommodate the luggage slip that I have on my go-to carry-on backpack. This means that I can’t attach my bag to the trolley handle and I have to wear it on my back when walking through the airport or train station.

Aside from the width, the trolley handle is made from the same aluminium alloy and it telescopes extremely smoothly and is quite durable. So if you’re not bothered by the width for the reason I just outlined, I would generally say it’s preferable to one of a more traditional width.

The carry-on also boasts a TSA-compliant lock and has 360° spinner wheels. These make it easy to wheel through the narrow aisles on an aeroplane and easily transition between different terrains.

Interior

The biggest benefit to the interior of this carry-on vs other carry-on suitcases – even other lines offered by LEVEL8 – is the fact that the wide handle does not interfere with the packing space of the suitcase. This means that you can really take advantage of its full 43-litre capacity.

There are no compression straps in the interior of the bag, however, each side does have a fully zipped panel so it can keep your items easily organised and secured.

On one of the panels, there are also two separate zipped pouches – these are the same as in the check-in version and have a dry one and a wet one.

Each side is the same size, as well, so you can pack everything evenly when filling up the carry-on!

Another great thing about the carry-on is, if you purchase the set, you can easily store the smaller case inside the larger one. In fact, this is how it arrived when it was shipped to us and it’s definitely how we’ll be storing it going forward – very convenient!

All in all, the LEVEL8 Voyageur Luggage Set (use code WORLD10 for 10% off) is an excellent addition to our luggage collection.

Both suitcases are incredibly durable and well-made, the handles and wheels glide easily and the hard shell exterior is sturdy. I’m sure that these will last for many years and travel all over the world with us!
